Sadly, Adam Sandler has been known to release some pretty subpar films in recent years - excluding Uncut Gems, but that's only if you like being stressed out for 2 hours and 15 minutes straight. However, if you remember Sandler for his hey day films like Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, and such, you'll probably still appreciate Hubie Halloween. Definitely go into it with low expectations, but there are a couple cameos that that old school Sandlerverse fans will love, and the overall great cast provides several laughs throughout the film. Of course there's some crude humor so I wouldn't advise watching with kids, but as far as Halloween movies go it's nice to have an option that isn't a horror film, and that makes you nostalgic for beloved films of the past!
To give another Halloween movie recommendation that isn't a true horror film...I was late to the party with Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, and first saw it at a friends' where they pitched it as an actual scary movie (which I hate), so that made it all the funnier when I realized it was actually a comedy. I've since showed it to other friends who dislike the horror genre and they've also enjoyed laughing at the ridiculous way this movie flips your typical scary stereotypes. Hopefully if you check it out, you'll get a laugh too!
