Carrie Underwood Says Fitness Is About More Than Wanting To 'Stay Thin’

Carrie Underwood who's most commonly known for her incredible voice and career in country music has more recently started to incorporate health and wellness into her brand as well.

In 2015 she launched her activewear line CALIA and has since shared workout tips and videos with fans. She's even releasing a wellness book, FIND YOUR PATH: Honor Your Body, Fuel Your Soul, and Get Strong with the Fit52 Life in 2020.

During the CALIA by Carrie Underwood Aspen Getaway, Underwood told People that her passion for health and wellness is much more than just a desire to "stay thin."

"It's been more about health, and being strong, and setting a good example for my kids, and working out because it makes me feel good," Underwood said. "And just kind of shifting my mindset about why I'm into health and fitness."

As far as dieting goes, the country star thinks balance and moderation is important. The longtime vegetarian said, "I don't eat meat because it's kind of a conscious decision that I make, but anytime anybody's like, 'I don't eat carbs,' I'm like, 'Oh, but carbs are important!'"

“I eat my carbs. Most of the time I eat more quinoa, rice, veggie carbs, but I eat my cake too,” Underwood adds. She made the decision to cut out meat at age 21 because her body functions well without it.

As far as her fitness routine goes, Underwood reveals that leg-toning exercises are essential for her. "I have to make sure and work extra hard on my hamstrings and my glutes and stuff like that, because whatever I'm doing, a lot of times my quads will take over," she explains. "I don't feel like anything is super complicated. I don't do anything crazy."

Underwood, who's shares two sons, Isaiah and Jacob, with her husband Mike Fisher, adds that carrying the kids up the stairs doesn't hurt when it comes to fitness either.
