Chris Stapleton made a surprise appearance during Miranda Lambertâs concert on Thursday night (October 1) in Nashville, Tennessee.
Lambert became the first artist ever to headline The Truth, a 4,400-capacity venue that just marked its grand opening in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood of Music City. The most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music history surprised the sold-out audience when she invited Stapleton to the stage. The two Grammy-winning country stars delivered a rendition of âA Song To Sing,â which they debuted in summer 2025. It was the first track Lambert wrote for her new studio record, Crisco, which arrived on Friday (October 2). She and Stapleton wrote it with Jesse Frasure and Jenee Fleenor, telling âthe truth of giving oneâs soul to the music and heart to the one at home,â according to a press release issued at the time. They also âhad ourselves a time at the skating rink,â filming the retro, â70s-inspired music video.
âChris understands the emotion of this song from the inside out, because he and Morgane [Stapletonâs wife] have both lived it,â Lambert said on her Instagram story last year. âTo have someone so soulful and willing to go into the heart of the feelings, to share the pull of the road and creative life â and what that means when you love someone with every bit of your being is next level. When we finished it, we both knew we wanted to release it, to share it with everyone.â
Lambertâs surprise duet with Stapleton was a highlight moment during her show, which included songs from Crisco and favorites spanning her career. Lambert said âit was magicalâ to hear her songs performed for the first time with a 12-piece string section. The new country-disco album also includes âSnakeskin Bootsâ with Ella Langley, âTwo Things Can Be True,â âTill The Goingâs Gone,â âSunset Marquisâ and more.
âIâve made a lot of records with a lot of heavy subjects over the years,â Lambert reflected on Friday morning. âThis album feels mostly lighthearted. Itâs refreshing to get up on stage and sing something fun. Making this record also unlocked a âtime to do whatever I wantâ feeling. Being able to create freely without putting parameters around my art has been really, really fun. I don't think I've ever smiled that much in the studio.
âI hope when people listen to Crisco, it feels familiar while also feeling fresh,â she said. âThey can grab onto something that feels nostalgic, put their roller skates on and go on the journey with us.âÂ
