TMSG: 88-Year-Old Has Donated Groceries For Over 40 Years

88-year-old Marilyn Mather spends two days a month giving back to her community in a big way.

Mather takes two days each month to go grocery shopping at the closest Meijer and Kroger. She spends as much as three hours shopping and after she's done, she donates everything she buys to the food pantry at First Presbyterian Church in Lansing, in partnership with Greater Lansing Food Bank. Mather has done this for over 40 years.

Just a few weeks ago, she returned with 42 bags of food and household items. Mathers is 4'10" and weighs 110 pounds, but she wouldn't have it any other way. She shared with the Lansing State Journal,

“Sometimes, I don’t feel like getting up, but I will go as long as I can. I just wanted to do something.”

The Greater Lansing Food Bank shared a special shoutout to Mathers on their Facebook page as well with a photo of Mathers with all of her grocery bags and a quote from her,

"I know there's a lot of hungry people out there who need help. It doesn't hurt me one bit to help. It's a good thing..."
