Luke Bryan is still reeling over an “incredible moment” during a recent American Idol audition. Kaylin Hedges, a 15-year-old high school student, delivered a powerful rendition of the smash-hit early 2000s ballad, “I’m Already There,” by Lonestar.

Hedges explained that the song was dedicated to her biggest inspiration, her father, who is stationed overseas serving in the army.

Little did the teen from Pound Ridge, New York know, however, her dad was “already there” in the audition room.

Hedges earned a standing ovation from the panel of judges — Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie — and a heartwarming message from her father. Perry told Hedges, “before we do a vote, your dad, he sent in a message that he wanted you to hear.” Hedges approached the panel as Perry played a recorded message from an iPad. Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Hedges said in a sweet message to his daughter, referencing her audition song:

“It’s your dad. I miss and love you very much. I wanted to tell you I have nothing but pride and admiration for you. I know I’ve missed many holidays, birthdays and major life events for you, but I just want you to know, that no matter where I am, I’m already there. So, take a look around.”

The judges reiterated that Hedges should “take a look around,” and her face lit up as her dad crossed the room and embraced his daughter. Richie exclaimed, “we did it twice,” as Hedges called her mom — who did not know about the surprise — into the audition room.

Perry announced that the judges would take it up “another notch” by awarding Hedges the platinum ticket, sending her to Hollywood without having to participate in the first round of Hollywood week.

“I’m overwhelmed,” Sgt. Hedges said. “It’s amazing to see.”

“Incredible moment getting to bring Dad home to see his daughter not only sing for us but get the platinum ticket!” Bryan captioned a clip of the audition on Instagram. Thank you for your service and sharing [Kaylin Hedges] with us.”
