Taking kids trick-or-treating tonight? You might need to bundle up! Halloween is finally here but many places in the US are going to see our first snowfall. There are a few mountainous states that could get 11 inches of the white ground cover!!
Let's get you ready for tonight. Here's a whole bunch of Halloween info...
1. The average person started prepping for Halloween and thinking about costumes just over five weeks ago. But people in their 20s and 30s have been prepping for almost seven weeks. And people who say they "go big" on Halloween have been planning since mid-August.
2. According to the National Retail Federation, we'll spend $11.6 BILLION on Halloween this year, or around $104 per person. That includes:
- $3.8 billion on costumes
- $3.8 billion on decorations
- $3.5 billion on candy
- A half-a-billion on Halloween greeting cards??
3. 72% of Americans are celebrating it this year. 67% will hand out candy, 52% have put up decorations and 49% are dressing up.
4. Is Halloween more of a young-person holiday in general? 21% of adults between 18 and 30 say it's their favorite holiday. Only 12% of people older than that agree.
5. 11% of Americans think Halloween is a "harmful" holiday. Around 77% say it's just good harmless fun. 12% aren't sure.
6. The top costumes for kids this year are Spider-Man, ghost, princess, and witch. The top costumes for adults are witch, vampire, cat, and Batman. The top costumes for pets are pumpkin, hot dog, bat, and ghost.
7. 24% of Americans claim they've seen a ghost before, including 19% of men and 29% of women. Of that 24%, 10% said it was the ghost of someone they knew. 14% said it was a random stranger's ghost.
8. A website called Affordable Urns ranked the most haunted states in America. The Top Five are all in the Northeast: Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Delaware.
9. The National Confectioners Association says 97% of people who answer the door for trick-or-treaters will hand out candy. So, 3% of us are the toothbrush and raisin types.
10. Our favorite chocolate Halloween candy is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Then Snickers, Kit Kats, M&M's, and a tie between Butterfingers and Milky Ways.
11. The average person bought their first bag of candy two-and-a-half weeks ago.
12. 37% of people who hand out candy say they make sure they buy popular candy to protect their reputation as a good house to hit on Halloween.
