The New Food Economy has found that the fiber in the bowls at Chipotle are exposed to chemicals that can lead to cancer. Apparently, the bowls are treated with PFAs which are also known as forever chemicals because the do not break down in the human body so they accumulate it over time. The PFAs are used because they help the bowls stay in tact while holding wet, hot, and greasy food, but this also leads to the bowls not being truly compostable as they are advertised. Some cities, such as San Fransisco are even banning these bowls as of January 1st of next year, so maybe more cities will follow, and Chipotle will find suitable replacements.
