I remember watching so many shows growing up where amnesia was a huge plotline so I thought it was a much more common issue in real life than it actually seems to be. However, this story has me worried about it again!
Can you imagine waking up one morning to start getting ready for high school, only to find a strange adult sharing your bed with you, then looking in the mirror to see and "old and fat" person looking back at you?! That's exactly what happened to Daniel Porter. At the time he was a 36-year-old married father of two who suddenly lost all of his memories from the last 20 years. His wife tried to jog his memory with their children and trips around the neighborhood and ultimately doctors visits, who thought his memories would come back in a few days. However, a year later he still hasn't recovered his memories and even had to quit working as a hearing specialist since he didn't remember any of his schooling or training. Now here's the other crazy thing. There doesn't seem to be any head trauma or something you would normally associate with amnesia. Doctors think it must have been triggered by emotional stress so he is in therapy to work through the trauma. Sending well wishes to Daniel and his family that he can hopefully recover his memories!
